Straf Reaches 100,000 Visitors, Wins Golden Film Award
Straf (int. title: After School) by directors Merijn Scholte Albers and Tobias Smeets has attracted 100,000 cinema visitors. For this achievement, the creators receive the Golden Film Award. The award was presented in Amsterdam by Sjaak to actors Ruben van der Meer and Rutger de Bekker, and director Tobias Smeets. In the film, music teacher Edwin has had enough of being bullied at school. Together with the macho PE teacher and his intern, he gets caught up in a blackmail game orchestrated by a wild teenager. The award is an initiative of the Netherlands Film Festival, supported by the Netherlands Film Fund and the Abraham Tuschinski Fund.
About the production
Merijn Scholte Albers and Tobias Smeets (Schoolfeest, Gratis) directed Straf, which they wrote together with Caspar Smeets. The cast includes Ruben van der Meer, Rutger de Bekker, Sezgin Güleç, Kylian de Pagter-Colin, Raymonde de Kuyper, Noëlle Simson, Estefanio Pinas, Yannick van de Velde, Daniël Kolf, Yari van der Linden, Steef Cuijpers, Lisa Zweerman, Yuani Blindenburg, Bobbie Mulder, Alex Ploeg, Janice Blok, Beau van Erven Dorens, Kees Hulst, and Sjaak.
Straf was produced by Lemming Film in co-production with Lemming Belgium. The film was made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, the Belgian Tax Shelter, and BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance. Independent Films released Straf in 112 Dutch cinemas.
